KARACHI: The Sindh government has divided Karachi into six districts, with Korangi being the latest addition, Express News reported on Tuesday.

The provincial government has issued a notification in this regard, along with a new map showing the six units.

“This decision was made a few days ago, but the notification was issued today. There are no political motives behind the new district in Karachi and it has been made just to ease administrative matters,” Minister for Revenue Makhdoom Jamil Zaman told The Express Tribune.

The new Korangi district includes some areas of Korangi, Landhi, Shah Faisal Colony and Gulistan-e-Jauhar.

The six districts in the mega city are: South, East, West, Central, Malir and Korangi.

The recent changes have reversed a few modifications made during the tenure of former dictator Pervez Musharraf.

The decision to carve out a new district was taken during a meeting presided over by Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui. The officials of revenue department, deputy commissioners of Karachi and PPP leaders had attended the meeting.

MQM leaders, while reacting to the recent development, said the PPP did not take them into confidence and they would resist the decision.

“We will oppose the decision and can approach the court against it,” said MQM leader Faisal Subzwari - who is also the opposition leader in the Sindh Assembly.

Earlier, the Sindh government had divided Thatta in two district making Sujawal a separate district and recently PPP leaders have proposed to divide Hyderabad, carving out a new district named Qasimabad.

Why do they (PPP Govt) have to continously remind us that

There are no political motives behind the new district in Karachi

We all know how fair it is.

If PPP was ever into doing something for the betterment of this city; it would've divided the province, rather then the city. PPP is simply playing the old game known as Divide and Conquer. But I'm Afraid Karachi kaal bhi MQM ka tha, aur Kaal Bhi hoga!!!!!

More local representation is possible if we break down the communities. My favorite city in Pak is Karachi. its the most cosmopolitan city in pak they say - people from all communities - hindoos , Jews, Christians not to mention Muslims co exist happily there .
