BAHAWALPUR:

The family of a woman who died following a cesarean birth at the Hasilpur Civil Hospital here on Monday protested against the hospital administration and accused the doctors of negligence.

The protesters said Razia Bibi had been brought to the hospital from Chak 189-M. She was having her first child 16 years after her marriage.

They said Dr Sabeen Umair had conducted the cesarean birth and a daughter was born. They said Razia Bibi’s condition deteriorated afterwards. They said the doctors took time arriving and that a paramedic gave her an injection, which apparently caused her death.

Razia Bibi’s husband Muhammad Shahid said he and his wife had waited 16 years for a child.

“Today I have a child, but I will also take home my dead wife.” The protesters demanded that the hospital management initiate an inquiry into the incident.

Dr Umair Masood of Civil Hospital told The Express Tribune that he and Dr Sabeen had been informed about the woman’s condition at 1:30pm. He said she took 30 minutes to reach the hospital, but by the time the patient had died.

He said the caesarean operation had been successful. He said the woman had possibly died from a heart attack.
