“The government is fully committed to eradication of dengue fever,” Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said on Saturday.
In a message for Dengue Day today (Sunday), the chief minister said the mosquito-borne disease had been largely controlled this year.
He said public awareness campaigns had been successful in raising awareness about the disease. He urged people to participate in the Dengue Day activities. He said the disease could be eradicated with the cooperation of citizens.
“Dengue fever is a social problem. It can be overcome through the participation of all segments of the society in the anti-dengue drive,” he said.
He said all government departments were working closely to monitor the public health situation in the province.
The chief minister said all government employees and medical experts should come together to eliminate dengue.
He said public hospitals had adequate stocks of medicines needed to treat dengue fever patients. He urged people with symptoms of dengue to visit a hospital immediately.
Dengue control
Minister for Health Khalil Tahir Sindhu said on Saturday that isolation wards and high dependency units had been set up in public hospitals for dengue patients.
He was talking to newsmen ahead of Dengue Day.
He said data of dengue patients at private hospitals was being obtained and collated.
He said hospitals could also upload data of dengue fever patients for government records electronically.
He said a dengue experts advisory group headed by Professor Faisal Masood had trained doctors at private hospitals and general practitioners for better treatment and case management of dengue patients.
The minister said as temperatures had been to cool, the dengue mosquito could move indoors.
He said district administrations were starting in-door dengue surveillance and larvaeciding.
He said it was the responsibility of the citizens to keep their houses clean and eliminate potential dengue breeding sites from near their localities.
