Jinnah’s dream

Letter October 14, 2010
It is wrong that Jinnah did not leave any successor or that those after him were not as capable of ruling the country.

KARACHI: In the article “Jinnah’s dream now a nightmare” (October 14) Wajahat Latif is incorrect in saying that Jinnah did not leave any successor or that those after him were not as capable of ruling the country as he was. Similarly, the writer is also incorrect in stating that Pakistan was the result primarily of the will, dedication and extraordinary leadership of just one man.

Jinnah left behind two brilliant and forward thinking successors: Liaquat Ali Khan and Zafarullah Khan. The former was assassinated and the latter sidelined because he was an Ahmadi.

One has to understand that by 1951, all the people who had actually worked for the creation of Pakistan were either dead or were being sidetracked.

In spite of everything that happened, I still feel that creating a separate country for the Muslims of the subcontinent was the right decision.
