GILGIT: Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) on Thursday announced it would hold an intersect convention in Gilgit to promote sectarian harmony in Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B). Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, MWM Deputy Secretary General Allama Amin Shaheedi said: “Representatives from all sects including Sunnis and Ismailis have been invited to the convention.” In the convention named ‘DifaWatan’, scheduled to be held on Sunday, MWM plans to confer awards upon at least 100 heroes or their families – irrespective of their sects – who took part in G-B’s war of independence. The MWM rejected the option of holding talks with the Taliban, and instead favoured the use of force against militants. About taking part in the G-B elections next year, Shaheedi said his party would contest the polls.
