ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission on Thursday issued the schedule for local government elections in Balochistan, almost five days ahead of schedule, Radio Pakistan reported.

At a news briefing in Islamabad on Thursday evening‚ Secretary Election Commission Ishtiak Ahmad Khan said local body elections in Balochistan will be held on December 7, 2013.

Earlier in the week, the additional secretary for ECP Sher Afgan had said that the schedule for elections in Sindh will be announced on November 1, while the schedules for Punjab and Balochistan would be announced on November 5.

The tentative dates for elections in Sindh had been set for November 27, while those for Punjab and Balochistan had been set for December 7.

To a question‚ he said the schedule for local government elections in Punjab and Sindh will be announced after the process delimitation is completed in those provinces. Schedule for Khyber Pakhtunkhawa and Islamabad will be finalised after prerequisites are fulfilled including the passing of a local government legislation in the former.

To another question‚ Ahamd said only magnetised ink will be used during the elections, though no immediate details were available on how will the ECP solve the issue of a massive supply and demand gap.

Its the second of shutterdown strike here in Khuzdar, and another three days of shutter down strikes are planned, I think by the time the elections would be held the violence would keep on increasing.
