As part of its delimitation plans for Sindh, the provincial government has decided to create a new district in Karachi to give the metropolis six districts in all, Express News reported.
Karachi currently has five districts, but the government is considering reworking their boundaries to include Korangi, Landhi and Bin Qasim in a new district.
Earlier this month, Sindh government had announced the decision to divide Thatta into two, turning Sujawal into a separate district.
On that occasion, Pakistan People's Pary Karachi President Abdul Qadir Patel had said that the government was considering bifurcating Karachi as well. “One or two more districts will be made in Karachi to ease the administrative matters,” he said, before adding the decision was purely administrative and not political.
The decision to divide Thatta had triggered opposition from local opponents of PPP.
Similarly, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement has previously voiced strong opposition to the idea of delilimitation of constituencies in Karachi. In May this year, the MQM appealed against it in the Sindh High Court, but the SHC dismissed their appeal.

Lyon, France with 500,000 population has more districts. Just goes to show they do not get how to govern.large cities.London with less than half population has 32 districts.No respect for Karachi. Little wonder they cannot manage it.
@Karachiwala:
you came from india not for to comment on Sindh, mind your language.
Karachi need to be made Province no dispute with that I do think even PPP disagree with that. But time has to be right. In first government of PPP corrupt Zaadari put the house in order which was very necessary. That what PPP in Sindh is doing by creating more district.
Why do they have to continously remind us that "the decision was purely administrative and not political."
We all know how political this decision is. Heck PPP put of LG Election for years cuz they knew MQM is too strong and will sweep the election; they attempted to dismantle and hurt its mandate as much as they can; and now they are ready. GIVE US A BREAK.
I would say that We didn't learn anything from Baluchistan and Bengal
"he said, before adding the decision was purely administrative and not political." Who is he kidding? The delimitation is nothing but POLITICAL. It's just another one of many attempts by PPP to gain more control/influence over Karachi away from MQM. - ET PRINT THIS
Totally agree with Arzoo.
More than anything Karachi Needs to be made a Province itself; not just Karachi but Southern Sindh Perhaps.
Karachiites continue to face irregualrities in law that dicrminate against them, and there mandate is clearly being sabotoged here.
Karachi needs many more districts for better administration. Logically, Karachi needs to be a province by itself for Karachi to prosper and to be better managed. It does not make sense for people to be brought from rural Sindh to staff Karachi's bureaucracy and for people to be brought from Punjab to staff Karachi's Police. It also does not make sense for people to live in Karachi and have domicile certificates from rural areas of other provinces for undue advantage in getting admissions in educational institutions and gaining employment overlooking merit and qualifications. This behavior has resulted in the destruction of PIA, Pakistan Railways, and other state-run institutions.
