Financial problems: Youth commits suicide

A youth committed suicide on Tuesday allegedly over financial problems.


Police spokesman Ameer Nasir Javaid said the deceased, Kashif Ilyas, a resident of Chak Jhumra Road, had been unemployed for several years.

He said on Tuesday, Ilyas locked himself in his room and took poison.

“He was taken to a hospital where he later died,” Javaid added.

In a separate incident, the police spokesman said a 19-year-old girl, resident of Moza Bahar, attempted suicide over domestic problems when she jumped into the river near Taremu Head on Monday.

He said she was rescued by residents. “Her condition is reported to be out of danger,” he said.

The police spokesman said Waqas Akam, a resident of Liaqatabad, Robina Arshad of Mohallah Nazar Niaz, Saba Nazeer of Kakoana, Shehan Shah of Chak 65-RB, Shumaila Muneer of Chak 463-GB and Kishwar Altaf of Awami Town also attempted suicides between Monday and Tuesday.
