Lahore High Court: Six new additional judges take oath

The LHC, which has a sanctioned strength of 60, now has 45 judges, of whom 12 are additional judges.

Six new additional judges of the Lahore High Court were sworn in at a ceremony at the LHC Judges’ Lounge on Tuesday.


Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial administered the oath to Justices Mahmood Ahmad Bhatti, M Tariq Abbasi, Arshad Mahmood Tabassum, Chaudhry M Masood Jahangir, Sadaqat Ali Khan and M Sohail Iqbal Bhatti. They took oath as additional judges for a year.

Four of the six judges had been working as lawyers and two as judges. Justice Abbasi had previously served as the Gujrat sessions judge and Justice Tabassum as judge of the special control of narcotic substances court in Rawalpindi.

Justice Khan from Attock, who has served as Punjab’s prosecutor general, Justice Jahangir from Sargodha, Justice MA Bhatti from Sialkot and Justice SI Bhatti from Multan had been lawyers.
