Punjab Rangers lodge protest over border violations with Indian BSF

Punjab Rangers and Indian Border Security Force meet for a flag meeting.

A flag meeting between Punjab Rangers and Indian Border Security Force was held on Tuesday at the Sialkot working boundary, Radio Pakistan reported.

According to a spokesperson of Punjab Rangers‚ incidents of unprovoked firing and shelling and other routine border issues were discussed in the meeting.

The Punjab Rangers launched a strong protest with the BSF officials regarding the recent border violations.

This is the second such meeting between border forces in the past four days after a spell of intense cross-border firing incidents from both sides along the Line of Control and the working boundary that have seen a number of people damaged and at least one civilian killed on the Pakistan side.

Though, the incidents have ebbed over the past couple of days, India’s Border Security Force (BSF) had resorted to unprovoked firing at a Pakistani paramilitary check post near the Wagah border on Saturday. A Punjab Rangers official told The Express Tribune that the firing took place at 2am in the morning near the Ali check post in Thatti Kodi village, prompting retaliatory fire by Pakistani forces.

Despite the meetings, tensions have remained high as both countries wait for a meeting between the respective DGMOs of forces manning the borders.
