Nisar for joint intelligence directorate, reviving Nacta

Interior Minister says they have completed groundwork for negotiations with Taliban.

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar on Tuesday said that the National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) will be revived and efforts will be made to improve coordination between all the intelligence agencies under a joint intelligence directorate, Radio Pakistan reported on Tuesday.

Nisar, while talking to the participants of the 99th National Management Course for senior officers in Islamabad‚ on Tuesday, said that in addition to the revival of Nacta and a joint intelligence directorate, a Rapid Response Force will also be created, complete with an air-wing to urgently tackle terrorism related emergencies.

The Minister added that homework for imminent negotiations with the Taliban had been completed in consultation with all stake holders.

Nisar said that the laws regarding evidence were being strengthened and the matter is already being addressed through promulgation of the Pakistan Protection Ordinance to improve the role of law enforcing agencies in interrogation and during prosecution.
