District Coordination Officer (DCO) Ahmed Javed Qazi and Minister for Food Bilal Yasin on Monday chaired a meeting at the DCO’s office to review the prices of commodities at Sunday bazaars.
Qazi said it was the responsibility of the city government to ensure that essential commodities were available on fixed rates. Qazi directed officials to check hoarding of essential commodities and to monitor the markets.
He said assistant commissioners were responsible for checking the performance of price control magistrates in their areas.
The meeting was attended by additional district revenue collectors, assistant commissioners, price control magistrates and market committee secretaries.
Qazi said eight more Sunday bazaars would be set up along the lines of model bazaars.
He said sound systems would be installed at the markets to announce official prices of various commodities. He said parking stands would also be set up near the bazaars.
