Muharram: 15,000 officials assigned security duties

The force would guard over 5,000 majalis (mourning sessions) and 600 processions in the city.

Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Chaudhary Shafiq Ahmad said on Sunday that around 15,000 police officials will be deployed for security during Muharram-ul-Haram.


He said the force would guard over 5,000 majalis (mourning sessions) and 600 processions in the city.

He was addressing a district peace committee meeting at Police Lines in Qila Gujjar Singh.

The meeting was attended by Haider Ali Mirza, Allama Mushtaq Jafri, Peer Usman Noori, Allama Javid Saqi, Mufti Masoodur Rehman, Peer Faisal Gilani, Mulana Bashir Nizami, Aga Shah Qizalbash, Khwaja Bashrat Karbalai, Mufti Ali Shah, Allama Kazim Raza Naqvi, Allama Assad Ubaid, Hafiz Shah Hussain, Maulana M Ali Bukhari, Sahibzada Saeedur Rehman, Mulana Mujeebur Rehman, Sheikh Akmal, Maulana Shakeelur Rehman, Syed M Ali Shamsi, Maulana Bashir Salafi, Manohar Chand, Bhagat Lal, Sardar Bishan Singh and Sardar Amrik Singh.

The DCO, the operations DIG, the investigations SSP and the superintendents heading police divisions were also present at the meeting.

Ahmed requested the managements of various majalis and processions to use single entrance and exits at the gatherings.

The CCPO said action would be taken against those found distributing hateful reading material. He urged Shia scholars to refrain from making hate speeches.

Ahmad said those found violating the ban on using loud speakers would be punished. He directed the SPs to remain in close contact with religious scholars and other officials of their respective areas.
