Abandoning newborn: Two women arrested from polyclinic

ISLAMABAD: The Aabpara police arrested a girl and her mother as they tried to flee Polyclinic Hospital after the former gave birth to child at the hospital on Saturday. According to the police, 17-year-old Nighat Shaheen gave birth to a child at polyclinic and afterwards tried to abandon the child and escape. Shaheen was accompanied by her mother. The admin then called the police, who took both the suspects into custody. According to the statement given to the police, the birth took place while Shaheen’s husband was abroad. They were later handed over to officials of the Women Police Station where further investigations are underway.
