World Twenty20 2014: Pakistan placed in ‘group of death’

West Indies, India and Australia also in the same group.

The International Cricket Council has announced the schedule of the World Twenty20 2014, which is set to take place in Bangladesh in March-April next year.

For the first time, as many as 16 teams will take the field; eight teams including Bangladesh and Zimbabwe will feature in the qualifying rounds with the top two teams at this stage joining the main round of the event.

Ten teams have been divided into two groups with the top two from each pool to qualify for the semi-finals.

Pakistan, the 2009 champions are placed in what can be dubbed as the ‘group of death’ with the reigning champions West Indies, 2007 champions India and Australia besides one qualifier expected to be hosts Bangladesh.

The other group includes 2010 champions England, two time finalists Sri Lanka, New Zealand and South Africa besides a qualifier.

The men in green will take on archrivals India in their opening group match on March 21. The final of the tournament will be staged on April 6.
