RAWALPINDI:

Eight people were seriously injured on Saturday when a van collided with another vehicle on Chakri road near Ranyal in the jurisdiction of the Chauntra Police Station.

A speeding van, carrying 20 participants of a wedding from Chakri was near the Khingar bus stop when it rammed into a truck coming from the opposite side.

As a result, people in both the vehicles were seriously injured, six of whom are stated to be in critical condition.

The drivers of both vehicles are among the injured.

“It was the van driver’s fault as he didn’t reduce his speed while crossing the road and collided with the truck,” said Aftab Mughal, an eyewitness.

He said locals rescued the injured and informed the police as well as Rescue 1122 officials.

A rescue official said eight injured persons were shifted to District Headquarters Hospital. The police said the tie rod of the Toyota Hiace van broke down, after which the driver lost control of the steering wheel and collided with the Shehzore truck coming from Rawalpindi. No First Information Report had been registered by the police.
