Musharraf was arrested two weeks ago on charges of murdering Abdul Rasheed Ghazi, the prayer leader of the 'Lal Masjid' (Red Mosque) in a 2007 raid on the mosque - just as his lawyer announced the former ruler was free to leave the country after being granted bail in another, unrelated case.
"The judicial magistrate extended the custody of Musharraf till October 29," Iftikhar Chattha, an investigation officer, told Reuters, adding that the investigation had not yet finished.
Musharraf seized power in a 1999 coup but was forced into exile nine years later after a showdown with the judiciary. He returned to Pakistan this year to contest May elections but was barred from standing by a flurry of court cases.
The arrest of Musharraf - a former army chief - was unprecedented in a country ruled by the powerful military for more than half of its life.
Despite his arrest, Musharraf is not being held in a jail with common criminals.
Friday's hearing was held at his villa on the outskirts of Islamabad. The house has been declared a sub-jail by the authorities.

@Muhammad Hasnain Yousaf: Lol , What are my empty rants ? I stated your empty rants and your foolish cooked up with logic. I dare you to tell me what i have written is MISFACTS ? grow up and open your eyes
@Malik Hamza: If you have anything contrary to my "mis-facts" then please bring forth rather than empty rants.
@Muhammad Hasnain Yousaf: All wat u said above is how u see things and u have cooked up these things in ur head perhap. State the facts don't write your opinions cos if you want to go on opinions trust me my opinion on you will be relating you to a banned group like TTP.
This is so ridiculous that thecountry's judiciary & govt both are strengthening the hands of terrorists and punishing the welwishers of the country. Pakistan is not being lead in thr right direction but being pushed towards the unending darknesses.
@naeem khan Manhattan,Ks: Mr. Naeem from Manhattan, I beg to differ. It is clear now that the so called democratically elected governments of Nawaz and PPP were anything but. The recent elections have shown how they are masters of rigging the elections. No wonder people were and are still sick of them. They are incompetent, corrupt, and have no concern for the people of Pakistan. That's why Pakistan is left penniless and insecure every time they are in power. Nawaz left Pakistan bankrupt when Musharraf took over (by the way people celebrated) and Musharraf left Pakistan in 100 times better shape. Today's news is Pakistan's dollar reserves declined $1B in the last month alone, so Nawaz is back on the same track when he was booted out. I would take Musharraf back a million times over your democratic masters of election rigging. We've had enough already!
@Rex Minor: I guess your crying about Lal Masjid. The people inside were terrorist and the action against them were 100% right. If you think other wise i am afraid to say that your thinking is nonetheless of a terrorist. You and the TTP think the same and people of this thinking should be pushed to the wall. Enlighten your knowledge rather than listening to other people. May god bless Pakistan .
@naeem khan Manhattan,Ks: I think you have forgotten the history not us. Let me remind you some things from the past: 1.Throwing democratic government : Here the fact : Sharif is corrupt and he was ruining the country. Army took over not Musharraf. So please get you facts right. 2.. The Judiciary you are talking about. : Sharif ordered the police to attack the supreme court. So stop trying to fool people . You only fooling ur self. 1. About breaking the constitution : body must be saved even if you have to cut out the limb. Pakistan is more important the the constitution. Stop raising frivolous points cos u are making a joke out of yourself.
@Aftab: 1-The country went bankcrupt because 178 Million zahid-hamids of this country pushed him for Nuclear reply to India. And then like true meer Jafirs, withdrew all the foreign exchange from the country when it needed them most. 2-A simple question, who started the Kargil War? NS or Musharraf? Who lied to both the government and his own comrades about "Mujahids" fighting in kargil rather than regulars? Who couldn't muster up courage to call the poor soliders back when they were countinously pounded by PGMs, Nepalm Bombs and Artillery Shells?
This criminal should be hanged till death in public.
A general teamed up with US in Afghan Jihad, brought heroin and extemism culture in Pakistan.....No accountability. A general started the kargil misadventure, caused 4000 of his foot soldiers to die in vain....no accountability A general determines who is loyal to Pakistan who is not, and then kills anybody at will in the name of national interest.....no accountability A general sells all of Government's land and swarm the bureaucracy with his comrades......No accountability A general surrenders the sovereignty of Pakistan over a phone call......No accountability A general allows Pakistan becoming a US sub-Jail.......No accountability A general wipes out the crime of politicians by introducing NRO......No accountability A general sells national airbases to UAE (which re-lease them to US for drone attacks)....No accountability A general sits home smoking cigarettes while the terrorist wrack havoc in GHQ for a whole day....no accountability A general,with his marrymen is caught napping by US in OBL raid,,,,,no accountability A general watches the mehran base (the only base in the world involved in banquet hall business) and P3Cs burn.....No accountability A general watches sipps the tea as AWACS in Karma gets destroyed by the terrorists.....No accountability ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So my dear malala and countrymen, the best thing to do in Pakistan is to become a general........Why becoming a politician and taking 24/7 bashing for nothing? Forget PMship and start thinking Lt,Gen Malala Yousaf Zai.
@Rex Minor: What house of god? Lal Masjid? Thanks to idiots like you we are in the mess we find ourselves in today.
Musharaf is a coward, otherwise he would have spit on the faces of those who accuse him for restoring state's writ.
@naeem khan Manhattan,Ks:
democracy is 'flourishing' today.
SWEET.
@naeem khan Manhattan,Ks: I agree that the the rule of laws and adherence to the constitution is followed by all and sundry in order for democracy to take root....however, respected NK sb...have you noticed all that stated above in your comment are respected by any of us especially the lawmakers and politicians.....
2- I also agree that Gen M should stand trial but it should also include all those who legitimized his take over 3- all those dictators of past and their supporters also must stand trial
Again respected NK sb.....no double standard....rule for all no selectivity.
@naeem khan Manhattan,Ks: As if currently there are streams of milk and honey flowing Pakistan. The things which you have mentioned are good to hear but there is no real implementation of what you are saying. Now its a democratically elected dictatorship. Musharraf was far better leader than whatever we have had for past 6 or 7 years. The bad thing which he did was he got into politics and trusted politicians and now he is paying the price.
@naeem khan Manhattan,Ks....Higher court validated his action...and the Chief Justice still under PCO oath......Lal Masjid maulana once again doing illegal activities http://www.dawn.com/news/1050086/lal-masjid-out-to-occupy-amenity-plot...why no sau moto
The judiciary has lost every bit of their credibility. The judges who endorsed his military coup and allowed him to amend the constitution are now after his blood because he sacked them. In this particular case it is ridiculous to let the terrorists walk free and the ex president is put behind bars.
@naeem khan Manhattan,Ks:
For those who don't know or remember, Nawaz Sharif made the country almost bankrupt in 1999 and sacked his army chief when he was abroad and ordered stopping the plane carrying the army chief and other 100 travellers from landing anywhere. I don't need to remind people of the current judiciary's pathetic performance, bias and injustice - they should not only be sacked but be tried for protecting and releasing terrorists, Talibans, CJ;s son and taking decisions against the laws and established jurisdictions and scopes.
Musharraf love your Sir. You are the best. Allah and people of Pakistan are with you.
@Pakistan First.: I beg to differ with your opinion! He is a criminal of a Quraanic dimension having violated the sanctity of the House of God! It is upto the prosecution to prove about the accusation of pre-meditated murders. I would propose to him to repent in the house of God and spend a period of not less than the period of siege, in the service of the mosque. May God almighty enlighten you sir.
Rex Minor
Some of you people who's comments here project him to be some lily- white person who has done nothing wrong. The fact is that he has violated the constitution by over throwing an elected government of Nawaz Sharif in 1999, and above all incarcerated the higher judiciary of the land to perpetuate his illegal rule. He must be tried for these crimes and make an example of him that the future Bonaparte who are waiting in the wings to do the same in future will not get away with it. Democracy in Pakistan will only flourish when the writ of the laws and the adherence to the constitution of the country are respected and adhered to. It seems like the constitution has no value or respect for those who can't see beyond their ethnicity.
Don't you guys ever put someone on trial - or do you spend all your time in court negotiating the terms of perpetual bail?
ET Excuse me... he is not a criminal. Unless proved proved guilty, accsued cant be treated as criminal. It speaks the vendetta ET has against Musharaf. There is nothing illegal confining him at place other than ordinary Jail.
The Maolana who put lives of hundreds of his students at stake and defied the state, now roams freely while a head of state who tried to impose the writ of his state, stands in the dock as a criminal. Long live Pakistan!
