Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that government is giving priority to solar energy sector as a short term strategy for controlling energy crisis.


Addressing Chinese investors in Xinjiang, the chief minister said a solar energy park is being constructed in Punjab to generate 1,000 megawatts electricity. He said there is a need for Chinese cooperation for the implementing this project.


Shahbaz Sharif also visited factories producing solar energy equipment in various cities of China and expressed keen interest in the manufacturing of windmill, power transformers and solar cells.


Talking to the media before his departure from China, Shahbaz Sharif said that Chinese investors have expressed interest in setting up a solar panels factory in Punjab. Provincial Energy Minister Sher Ali Khan said the visit of Punjab CM has opened up new avenues of Chinese cooperation.
