A police constable was killed by unidentified assailants in Mohallah Ibrahim Zai of Kulachi tehsil on Wednesday night.

A police official said Constable Sajid Nawaz, Kulachi police station’s Armored Personnel Carrier (APC) driver, was coming back from his neighbour’s house when the gunmen opened fire at him in front of the gate.

Nawaz’ brother Zahor Khan told the police he heard gunshots late at night, following which he rushed outside and saw Sajid lying lifeless on the ground. The culprits managed to escape after committing the crime.

Khan said his brother had no enemies, adding he did not know why Sajid was killed. Police registered an FIR and started investigation.

On Monday, four police officials, including an ASI, were killed in the provincial capital at a checkpoint located in the jurisdiction of Pahripura police station. Four gunmen riding on two motorcycles opened fire on the officials manning the checkpoint.
