The provincial government of K-P asked the Supreme Court to allow more time for it to make necessary arrangements for the LG elections.
K-P Chief Minister Pervaiz Khattak had mentioned earlier that it would not be possible for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to hold local body polls in the province this year.
He had made these remarks after attending the party’s core committee meeting on October 3 in Islamabad. At the meeting, he had said that the recent wave of terror in K-P province forced the government to procrastinate on local body elections, making it difficult for the party to quickly move forward.
“It’s almost impossible to hold local body polls in 2013, we still have to do a lot work on it,” he had told The Express Tribune, adding that polls will be held in February next year.
“Back to back three terrorist attacks in Peshawar have created hurdles in our way to precede lawmaking process on local bodies’ government system,” he had further added.
LG elections in Punjab and Balochistan will take place on December 7 while in Sindh they will take place on November 27.

@Shehzad: You do not know a thing and are talking like you know it all. Village level and District level elections will be held directly that means the village level councils will not elect them instead the people of the district will elect them directly in the lections. So first get some knowledge about the law and than speak.
@Shehzad: what a logic... like at district level, peoplel can see that PTI is in govt but at village council they are blind? if they want to elect the govt party, they can do it on district level and also on village council level...
result of bye-election? you mean faisalabad right? of DI Khan? because these are the latest bye-elections :)
@Jamshed M: Dear, how we will appreciate LG in KPK, PTI is going to introduce the most corrupt local government system in KPK. They decided that on council level there will non-party based election while on district level there will be part based election. Now, what are the motives behind this decision? simple on council level whatever whoever win the election, on district level every body will join the governmental party (PTI) for funds. And, for governmental party it is very easy to buy the people from lower. For, your information PTI government made this amendment after the result of by-election.
Why doesn't Mr Khan just sit down and talk with his Taliban friends and ask for their permission and blessing for the elections!
CJP your appointed judges acquitting every second terror in KPK,ARE YOU PARTY TO PML N in this all confusion
In the eyes of our respected CJ and Imran Khan bashers, giving a date for polls is more important than the quality of polls. Sick mindset
It is duty of Govt to set deadline not courts. Every institution should remain within their limit.
PTI wants to held LG elections not the way it was held 11th May. Use of biometric will be one of the key change.
KP govt bill is totally different then other provinces, there are more preparations needed. This will be best LB conducted election in history of KPK. KP govt also trying to get electronic voting/biometric system, IK has mentioned this many times in his interviews. Der aaye durust aaye
@Ali:
there is something fishy fishy..why this urgency by the CJ now when he did not see any LG polls in the country in the last 5 years? but the real urgency is because he does not want the KP govt to pass the new law and he is on record that hold the elections even based on the old law!!! elections for the sake of elections?
90 days :p
CJ is on PMLN payroll. He didn't take any notice on massive poll rigging and here he is asking for something less serious. CJ is exposed
http://dunyanews.tv/election/index.php/news_detail/174355-PTI-promises-LB-polls-in-KPK-within-90-Days
Does PTI even KNOW the meaning of 90 DAYS? :P
If the courts ware under attack from the terrorist, the judges would sit at home till the security situation improved. Why expect a provincial government to brush aside the law and order situation. The judges are being very unreasonable.
@basit: No one including the Chief in the picture would take notice of the rigged elections; but on the other hand, even a small mistake on PTI's part is magnified and presented as a HUGE thing by ET.
Do we have no corruption in Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan and GB?
Why the focus is only on KP?
An election conducted in haste will not be a good idea. If they need a few more months to make proper arrangements, let them take a bit more time. The courts criminally allowed the previous govts to pass their full term without having to conduct LG election but won't give the KP govt a few extra months? A reasonable deadline should be to hold elections within a year of taking charge of KP. For Punjab and Sindh, there should be a stricter deadline to hold their LG elections this year because the parties in power in these provinces were already in govt during the previous term and have had plenty of time to make arrangements.
In the previous 5 years Punjab and other provinces did not hold any local bodies...CJ can wait for that 5 years but he can not wait for 6 months given to a newly elected government in KPK for this huge and important task..
@Basit show me any corruption? Corruption has been eliminated at high level and that's what Imran Khan promised. As far as conducting LB elections goes, PTI has a much more constructure plan of empowering villages, in which a lot of preparation is being done. It may time time, but it will be the best LB elections ever conducted. Also, they are trying to bring in electronic voting/biometric system. Terrorism is also big issue.
Top level corruption has been eliminated in KP already. Furthermore, the upcoming independent NAB will ensure that if any senior minister or bureaucrat tries anything they will be caught.
@basit: well Mr basit .. holding Local bodies election is one thing and eliminating corruption is totally different .. had they wanted to hold local bodies elections like punjab and sindh and balochistan are doing .. they would have done it a few months ago ... but KPK local bodies bill is totally different than rest of the 3 provinces .. for first time in Pakistan KPK has introduced village councils .. and also for first time all developmental work will be done by local bodies unlike punjab and sindh where power center will still be provincial govt .. similarly school and health will be under village councils unlike other provnices .. so it is better to appriciate KPK govt rather than criticising them without knowing facts ..
why?I.K. promised L.B election.in 90 days after coming in power...
if they can not hold LG elections in 5 months, how they were claiming to eliminate the corruption in 3 or 6 months. PTI exposed.
