A sculpture exhibition by upcoming artist Muhammad Shahid Yousaf, a graduate of National College of Arts (NCA) Rawalpindi, kicked off at the Rawalpindi Arts Council (RAC) on Tuesday.

Flanked by RAC Director Naheed Manzoor and senior artists, the Deputy Chief of Mission of Japanese Embassy Takashi Katae inaugurated the young sculptor’s debut solo exhibition comprising of seventeen unique pieces.

Impressed by the new technique and innovation, Katae  said the sculptures convey a message of cleanliness, an idea applicable to everyone.

Manzoor said by making a broom as the base of his artwork, Yousaf has introduced a new technique, symbolic of cleanliness, that is destined to grow in the future.

“For a sculptor, the material through which he delivers his work is important. Broomsticks have been used for centuries in the Indian sub-continent but it is probably the first time it has made a descent into art,” said RAC Resident Director Waqar Ahmed.
