ISLAMABAD: The PML-N, as expected, has decided to challenge the appointment of Justice (retd) Deedar Hussain Shah as the new chairman of NAB in the Supreme Court.

In a high level meeting in Islamabad PML-N’s Nawaz Sharif directed the leader of the opposition, Chaudhry Nisar, to file a petition challenging the appointment.

The PML -N contends that as stipulated by the 18th amendment, the government should have consulted the opposition leader before appointing the NAB chairman.

Chaudhry Nisar has written a letter to the Prime Minister, Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani, in this regard.

The appointment of Justice (retd) Deedar Hussain Shah has already been challenged in Lahore and Sindh High courts.

More petitions in Sindh High Court

Meanwhile, another petition has been filed in the Sindh High Court challenging Deedar’s appointment today (Wednesday).

The petition has been filed by a Karachi based lawyer and alleges Deedar’s appointment was made without consulting the Chief Justice and is therefore illegal.

The petitioner has asked the court to stop the NAB Chairman from working until the case is decided.

Meanwhile, Advocate Sidique Mirza has also filed a similar petition against the NAB Chairman in the Sindh High Court.

Ammar | 12 years ago | Reply Ranan Bhagwan Das is Chairman Public Service Commission and is doing his job very well. We need him there. But what we need is unbiased judges and there is a dearth of ones. If anything skips through or wrongly taken-up by NAB then only judiciary can ensure fair dispensation of justice. What we have seen in the past, is a targeted accountability. To support my argument, let me give you the example of cases against Sohail Zia Butt and Reman Malik, conviction in which was of identical nature. Rehman Malik's conviction stands still and Sohail Zia Butt gets bail. What kind of justice is this? Nawaz League shamelessly claims to be the foot soldier of justice, people should also look into that, and I think people are more sensible than pseudo intellectuals breaking their keyboards in response to this negative propaganda of establishment's babies.
Aftab Kenneth Wilson | 12 years ago | Reply CJ of SC has already given his Most Honorable Remarks as usual out of all context during the hearing of NRO case on 13th of this month on the recent appointment of NAB Chairman. So the Savior has given them the clue and they are bound to follow. A new Pandora Box in waiting. Khidoo Pholyan LeeraaN LikyaaN.
