ISLAMABAD: The country’s major religious parties want Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to hold frank and definitive talks with the United States to negotiate an end to drone attacks in Pakistan. Leaders of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) have urged PM Nawaz to tell US President Barack Obama that drone attacks are not acceptable. “No peace talks with Taliban will be possible if the drone attacks continue,” said Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the JUI-F chief. “Such attacks violate Pakistan’s sovereignty and they must stop,” said JI Islamabad Vice President Zubair Farooq. Fazl said he was hoping the prime minister would make full use of the media attention his visit was receiving. It is Pakistan’s stated policy that drone attacks are not acceptable and it should be conveyed without any ambiguity.

The religious parties hold very few seats in the national assembly (less then 10%). They are in no position to demand. They are the reason along with the military that we are in the mess we are in. They should do everyone a favour and simply shut up and go back to teaching islamiyat.
