No evidence of Pakistan one-day fix: ICC

LONDON: The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday ruled there was no evidence of corruption in the third one-day international between Pakistan and England last month.

A statement from the ICC concluded there was "no compelling evidence to suspect individual players or support staff" following an investigation into scoring patterns of the match at the Oval on September 17, 2010.

"The investigation is now complete but if new and corroborating evidence comes to light then clearly the Anti-Corruption and Security Unit will re-open the matter," the statement said.

The investigation was separate from allegations of corruption levelled against Pakistan during the scandal-tainted Test series with England, which led to three players being suspended indefinitely.

The ICC last month announced it was probing an investigation into a "certain scoring pattern" that emerged during Pakistan's win over England at the Oval, later confirming England's players were not involved in the probe.

It followed a report by The Sun newspaper, which claimed to have been made aware of details of Pakistan's innings before the match had got under way.

The paper tipped off cricket authorities, who then watched as the scoring patterns in two suspect overs emerged as predicted, The Sun report said. The overall result of the match was not believed to be fixed, the report added.

According to The Sun, the allegations emerged after the paper was notified of calls between a Dubai-based match-fixer and a New Delhi bookmaker.

Rizwan T Khan | 14 years ago | Reply ICC should pay PCB for the loss of not letting the 3 players play the crucial matches. This also raises serious doubts on ICC running capabilities. Its really funny that ICC has warned PCB for its dysfunctional structure and activities. How about taking a deep view on your own dysfunctional activities ICC. I think ICC should be warned and if fails then replaced the whole council with non racist and fair people who know how to run a fair department. I think ICC is way more dysfunctional than PCB as a trashy tabloid shook the whole of the council. scrap this council and refill it with non racist fair people who know how to work and do justice with the cricket world.PCB should sue ICC. Shame on you ICC!
Daubic | 14 years ago | Reply Mr. Shani Syed, if ICC had to be penalized for one such stupid act, what about Pakistan. It is getting caught every time from the olden ages of Javed Miandad to Butt. Everybody is involved in this. All ICC said was, it would inquire the allegations and they did that and now saying they found nothing substantial. They are honest in their review and take corrective actions. Had your board anytime in the past or present or anytime in future will do that. You guys always play the Cry Baby Games.
