A woman and two children, who had sustained burns due a gas explosion at their house in PWD Colony, Lohi Bher, were admitted to the burn centre of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) on Saturday.
Sources at the hospital said that Nazia Naz, 35, sustained 80 per cent burn injuries and was in critical condition. Her children, who were identified as Hasan Ali, 4, and Mustageera, 10, sustained 10 to 20 per cent burns and were in stable condition.
According to reports, Naz was preparing dinner when a cooking stove suddenly exploded and her clothes caught fire. Her children reportedly sustained the wounds while trying to rescue her.
Meanwhile, Holy Family Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Arshad Ali Sabir told The Express Tribune that on the second day of Eid, eight members of a family who had sustained burn wounds were brought to the hospital’s burn centre in critical condition. Of them, five later died, while the rest are still admitted in the hospital. He would not elaborate on how the family sustained the burns.
