The flight landed at Jinnah International Airport, Karachi at 4:05pm.
It is reported that the condition of the woman who delivered the baby is not well.
A medical team is already present at the airport.
Women who are in their 25th to 32nd weeks of pregnancy require a medical certificate from their doctor stating that they are fit to travel according to Article 7.4.1 of PIA’s guidelines.
In addition, they require prior clearance from PIA's medical department for travel after the 32nd week of pregnancy.
Meanwhile, the news of childbirth in the PIA flight PK 782 was termed “preposterous and unfounded” by the national flag carrier’s spokesperson, Mashhood Tajwar.
“The news was given enough airtime without even fulfilling the journalistic standards of necessary verification and reaching the parties involved,” added Tajwar while talking to The Express Tribune.
“It is extremely unethical on part of media organisations that they caused a great stir with the fabricated news story, which was then suddenly disappeared from the television screens without any formal acceptance of omission. These media organisations were not bothered to even publish the rebuttal of the main party involved i.e. the PIA.”

I conducted the delivary of a full tern baby onboard PIA Jeddah-KHI in Feb92. The personnel said they will send a letter of thanks & acknowledgement, but havent yet recieved it. Wonder if they even put it in official records.
I delivered a baby in Feb 92, in a PIA flight from Jeddah to Karachi, the airlines personnel said they will send a letter of thanks. Havent recieved one yet. Wonder if it ever went in their records officially.
"Women who are in their 25th to 32nd weeks of pregnancy require a medical certificate from their doctor stating that they are fit to travel according to Article 7.4.1 of PIA’s guidelines."
If the woman cannot provide this - an "under the table $100 note" will suffice!
When two clearances are required from two medical authorities for 25th and 32nd weeks of pregnancy, why is there such a ruckus. Obviously, there is a rat running about somewhere. Catch the RAT. Salams
Well, this is not the only incidence where our electronic media has behaved irresponsibly.
What You People Say after reading the story? The news of childbirth in the PIA flight PK 782 was termed “preposterous and unfounded” by the national flag carrier’s spokesperson, Mashhood Tajwar.

Now after the rebuttal when you read all the above comments, OMG, ET is full of trolls. Hating any thing pakistan. There is even a comment against khan. May Allah save us from these trolls..
Seriously Pakistan has to control their population numbers, this is not sustainable. People need to produce less children. I'm surprised the lady got permission to fly but then again who knows.
international child pakistani canadian flew over france or somwhere loll
@Waseem: Major responsibility lies with the mother when she is pregnant. Now a days because of ultrasound, good amount of information is given to the patient including the risk of premature labor ( onset of labor before 37 wks) Airlines can follow certain guide lines but final decision is with the mother. This is coming from a person who practice in this field. I will not blame PIA in this situation . Period. So please no bashing of PIA. Thanks
@pia: I agree with your comment. Media should be ashamed of themselves and offer opology. This kind of instances has happened in USA , more than once. The news will come as a small line some where on the back page. That is the end of the story.
Lets start a new airline PIA Baby!
PIA are bunch of liars.
waoooo it is real tsunami .in previous government a baby was born in riksha and now in aeroplane.flying khan
I pray for mother of Air Baby
@aftab nabi: The child's nationality would go with plane's nationality i.e. Pakistani, if the plane is not in any other territory at the time of birth
Otherwise, nationality would be and can be claimed to any country, whose territory it would be in,by locus in quo principle.
Back to Back records From rickshaw to aeroplane. This shows the incompetence of PTI.where is tsunami??
Normally, when a child is born in an aeroplane, he/she become the citizen of the country on whose skies the flight was coasting at that time. Incidentally the child also claim citizenship of a country where her parents have citizenship rights.
@Aftab Nabi and Waqas, Prior to this incident, children have been born during flights. United Nations Laws ( because it involves few countries and international waters, therefore its United Nations jurisdiction) are very clear about children born during flights 1. If the parents of child are Canadian, then child is a Canadian, wherever child is born. 2. If the parents are Pakistanis, then child is a Pakistani too. 3. To determine place of birth in mid air, these are decided on the basis of the country where aircraft is registered or where child is removed from the aircraft. Most probably PIA aircraft is registered in Pakistan, and child will be removed from aircraft at Karachi, therefore child's birth place is Pakistan and city is Karachi.
epic...why was she allowed to fly in the first place?
Great people to fly with.........no.......great people to born with!
epic...why was she allowed to fly at first place?
irresponsible, both parents as well as airline. They should be accountable.
Place of birth Pakistan Air field
Hope she is well
The baby was born high in the air, and i think he is gonna be getting high from now onward. Grow up and party P.I.A Baby.. wohoooo
What would be his place of birth
Bad journalism. There is no baby born on that flight. Just a passenger who got sick so a doctor had to be called. Verify your stories before you publish them blindly in order to be the 'first' one.
It was also the responsibility of the PIA Staff Member to screen out the woman at the time of the departure of the flight whether the woman is in a condition to travel on a long distance flight or not.
She was not among the one who was traveling from Karachi to Toronto, so that the new born will baby will get Canadian Passport, but we was coming back home.
Who knows under what compulsion she was traveling to Karachi after 32nd week of pregnancy?
The doctors must give her full attention after the aircraft has landed to Karachi Airport in order to save her life and the life of the new born baby on the flight.
It was also the duty of the Pilot of the aircraft that when he was informed that the woman has delivered during the flight and she was in critical condition, the Pilot should have diverted the flight to the nearest airport to provide her immediate medical treatment.
For God's sake don't always put the blame on passengers, but instead PIA Staff should also accept the responsibility of their inability.
so is it true if a child is born in flight he does not require visa to any country? or does the airline provide free air travel for life ?
Will the child be a Canadian or Pakistani national? I pray that mother and child are safe.

This criminal careless act of allowing the woman to travel and endanger her life should be followed up by Canadian authorities. Only in Canada can the culprits be brought to receive full force of the law and justice; as nothing will be done in Pakistan. One more record broken by PIA.
