The statement read:
"Kamran Yousaf s/o Muhammad Yousaf, hailing from Jalalpur Jattan (Gujrat) was shot dead in Western Sydney on Saturday 12 October 2013 during a robbery at the fruit shop the deceased was working [in].
"This news has been received with deep sorrow and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses its sympathies with the bereaved family on the irreparable loss."
The statement further claimed the Pakistani government has ensured that the body is safely transported back to Pakistan in time.
A newly married accounting student
The Sydney Morning Herald reported that Yousaf had only recently married, and had left his home in Pakistan and arrived in Sydney in December last year to study for a Masters in Professional Accounting at the King's Own Institute in central Sydney.
"Yousaf had taken a job at the Villawood Value Fruit Market to make ends meet, and he was working on Saturday afternoon when two men - one armed with a gun, and the other with a hammer - stormed into the store just after 3:30 pm."
The paper went on to state that "Yousaf is believed to have struggled with one of the offenders before the second offender shot him twice – once in the head, and once in the stomach," after which he died on the spot.
The Daily Telegraph reported:
"It's alleged Kamran Yousaf, 28, was shot in the head as he tried to stop Murdoch's alleged accomplice Linh Dang, 27, from Sadleir, from fleeing with a cash register."
Shahid Iqbal, the president of the Pakistan Association of Australia condemned the incident and said it sent "a very bad message to the Pakistani parents who are thinking to send their children to Australia for studies."
Yousaf's friends on Facebook said that Yousaf was due to return to Pakistan on October 28.
Two arrested
Linh Dang and Lance Murdoch have been arrested and charged with murder and armed robbery.
The Pakistan Foreign Office said that the government was in contact with local authorities in Sydney over the swift delivery of justice and appreciated the Australian government for ensuring that the culprits were promptly arrested.

@Realist: Students in Australia can work part time. Read Aussie laws, you fool.
who are you to declare that he is illegal? Students are allow to do work 40 Hours/Fortnight@Realist:
@saad:
Yes hand over the murderers to Pakistan so that they can live in peace in Jail and wait for Taliban to get them free. They are better at taking care of them over there
Thanks ET, you have to show Pakistanis living in Pakistan it is not so rosy after all overseas. You can get murdered and treated really badily and life is hard if you are on struggle street with not much means for existence.
@Realist: 28 year old student working in a fruit shop? Probably an illegal worker with a student visa.
Shame on you.
RIP Yousaf,, its so sad to hear :(
It was heart breaking news, his time was over I believe and had to die like this regardless of his resistance.
We must know that in the west every shop and house etc is insured (I mean has insurance) so no matter what happened, insurance company will compensate. So don't risk your life.
If possible the culprits should be handed over to Pakistan. In case it's not possible, there has to be capital punishment for such criminals.
@Realist: You have obviously grown up in a privileged background and have no idea what it means to pay for your own finances. I was doing a Master's in Engineering in Canada and used to flip burgers on the weekends to make ends meet. Not everyone is born into a rich family.. understand?
Really unfortunate RIP
@Jibran, Not all are as cold blooded, some are loyal with their jobs. This guy didn't own the shop, still he resisted. He is martyred in my opinion.
“Shahid Iqbal, the president of the Pakistan Association of Australia condemned the incident and said it sent “a very bad message to the Pakistani parents who are thinking to send their children to Australia for studies.”
I feel very sorry for the man, but that's a stupid thing to say.
Sad, but moral of the story is 'never resist' a Robery
Feel very sad for him and his parents. Please please never resist when money is at stake. In developed countries everything is insured.
Sad
That clearly shows the situation in abroad. May Allah give him peace
Its very sad new. RIP
Rule 1. Don't be a hero. Never resist a robbery.
Rule 2. There is no rule 2.
RIP. Sad, and all sympathies with his parents and newly wed wife.
He shouldn't resisted to these culprits, its common in West, that people come and rob the stores.
His parents will be in great pain, who nurtured him this far.
May God give them patience to overcome this tragedy.

Eh,... this can happen in any country. Australia is much safer than Pakistan. Not to belittle the victim, but a 28 year old student working in a fruit shop? Probably an illegal worker with a student visa.
He is from my home town, Gujrat. Feel sad for him, he shouldn't have resisted!
Pakistanis working on fruits is better than others murdering to meet ends.
