ISLAMABAD:

A fire erupted in a lecture room at Pakistan Institute of Medical Science (Pims) on Tuesday due to an electrical fault.

The fire erupted at around 1pm in medical ward six and took authorities around an hour to extinguish. No death or injury was reported in the fire, according to hospital sources.

“When the fire broke out, the hospital’s security personnel used fire extinguishers to put out the fire, while the fire brigade was also called,” said officials at Pims, adding that rescue officials suspected short-circuiting caused the fire.

The lecture room’s furniture, multimedia set and air conditioners were damaged by the flames.

Mohammad Musa, an attendant for a patient who was admitted in the medical ward, said the moment the fire erupted, panic spread among the patients.

“The smoke coming from the lecture room alarmed patients and attendants who were outside the ward,” said Musa.

Talking to The Express Tribune, Pims Spokesperson Dr Ayesha Eshani said all the patients admitted in ward six were immediately shifted to another ward. She said everything was under control and the hospital was carrying out a review of the incident.
