‘Family rivalry’: Child, grandmother killed

Police said that Haseena Bibi’s family had an old dispute with her nephew Imran’s family.

BAHAWALPUR: An elderly woman and her two-month-old granddaughter were killed over a family rivalry in Basti Bagga, Ahmadabad, near Rahim Yar Khan, on Monday. Police said that Haseena Bibi’s family had an old dispute with her nephew Imran’s family. Haseena Bibi was carrying her granddaughter Fatima and working in the fields near her house when Imran and two of his accomplices arrived at the scene. They struck the two with axes and killed them on the spot. Haseena Bibi’s daughter Zakiyya and her daughter-in-law Azra rushed to the spot. The men attacked and injured them as well. They were rushed to a hospital in Rahim Yar Khan where their condition is said to be critical. Haseena Bibi’s son, Irfan, went after Imran and has been missing, police said. The family fear that he has been abducted. Saddar Circle DSP Khalid Rauf told media that the suspect had been identified and would soon be arrested along with his accomplices.
