India violates LoC ceasfire in Nakyal sector

KOTLI: India violated ceasefire once again in the Nakyal sector of Kotli, Azad Kashmir, Express News reported on Tuesday.

Firing started at 5am and continued until the Pakistan Army retaliated.

Director Generals of Military Operations of India and Pakistan contacted each other by hotline after the incident.

The continuous violation of ceasefire agreement has terrorised locals. The two countries agreed to a ceasefire along the LoC in November 2003, but skirmishes have flared across the heavily-militarised LoC, the de facto border in Kashmir, with both sides blaming each other for having violated the agreement.

Violation in Nakyal sector

Earlier, Indian troops had fired mortars across the Line of Control (LoC) in the Nakyal sector on October 11, killing a child and wounding three other people.

Furthermore, on September 2 the Indian Army had carried out unprovoked shelling in the Nakyal sector area leaving numerous children stranded inside a local school.

On August 27, at least five people, including two women and a girl, were injured by heavy shelling and unprovoked firing in the same area. The continuous shelling and bombardment across the LoC had forced the natives to flee.

Moreover, on August 26 unprovoked firing from the Indian Army injured six civilians. Firing from across the border continued to target Nakyal sector in Kotli with Pakistan Army also responding to the firing from time to time.

“The nearby houses have been completely destroyed because of the shelling,” Express News correspondent had reported.

Earlier on August 25, shells were fired by Indian troops which struck villages in the Nakyal sector, some 200 kilometres south of Muzaffarabad, the capital of Kashmir, intermittently overnight. Three houses were damaged along with a car.
