This will be the first time that Pakistan and the Philippines will play an international match against each other. The Philippines are currently ranked 141st while Pakistan hold the 170th position in the Fifa standings.
Pakistan will go in the last match of the tri-nation tournament high on confidence after their 1-0 win against Chinese Taipei in their opening match on Sunday. Meanwhile, their opponents will seeking redemption as they lost to Chinese Taipei 2-1 on October 11.
If Pakistan win today, they will collect six points and take the title. If, however, the Philippines win, all three teams would be tied at three points, and the result will be decided on goal difference.
The Philippines have played five international matches this year and have won three, while Pakistan have played 11 matches out of which they won four, drew two and lost five.
Former Pakistan coach Tariq Lutfi said that winning the Peace Cup 2013 will send out a strong message in the continent.
“Winning the trophy will open the doors for Pakistan into the Far East Asian countries,” said Lutfi.
“They play international matches throughout the year and we can bag more friendlies against them. We can send out a good impression by winning this tournament.”
