During her 10-day tour in India, Culpo did an unauthorised footwear photo shoot at the world wonder, according to the Hindustan Times. Apparently, the pageant winner posed with branded shoes on a marble ledge called Diana’s seat (named after Princess Diana who visited in 1992), without permission from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).
According to the Huffington Post, Police officials say that Culpo and her team have violated India’s Heritage Act which bans any commercial activity at the Taj Mahal. Hence, the authorities have filed a case against them and if found guilty, they can face two years of jail time and a fine of INR100,000.
While Indian authorities are probing into the case, Culpo claims that she wasn’t too satisfied with the shoot in the first place. “I mean, I'm an employee of the Miss Universe organization and following directions given to me,” said Culpo. “I guess their vision was, ‘What's better to identify India than the Taj Mahal?’ But unfortunately it's something that was highly offensive. Honestly, I did say out loud at one point, ‘isn’t this a little inappropriate’.”

@G. Din: I stand corected.
@JSM: "@drti: She is Philippinese and that is not west. And Italians are In India waiting trial." Filipino not Philippinese And now Americans, too!
@Naveen: I hate to bring this back again, but was Delhi protest for hanging the rapists for "the way they raped the poor girl" suggested by psychologists or social scientists or whatever scientific you may assume scientific? The best for society, and i am saying this for all is the fear of law and that fear can be only driven into the minds of these sadists, pedophiles and rapists is to give them miserable death! Unfortunately no one seems to get the point and all people do is brag about sharia law as if they know about it a lot
@FAZ: Thanks for all such well wishers of India. We prefer scientific analysis rather than people's gut feeling as to what is best for society.
@Alann: You should educate your county fellow too then. If the rapist is not given death sentence for rape, then good luck to India in fighting against them.
No body is above the law.
@drti: She is Philippinese and that is not west.
And Italians are In India waiting trial.
Very well said FAZ.
LOL she's American. Indians will never jail westerners after what happened with those Italian soldiers. Imagine the trouble the Americans will cause if the Indians try anything?
@FAZ: "last i checked death penalty for a rapist is sharia law!!" Just because a certain punishment is mentioned in Sharia means it cannot be used by any secular Consitution/Law of any non-Islamic country? Also, those rapists were not sentenced to death for rape, but for how she was treated & badly beaten in the most inhumane way which led to her death. Death sentence in India is given only in the rarest of cases and those rapists deserved it; Has nothing to do with Sharia. Back on topic, even if she was innocent, she did commit a mistake or a 'crime' in legal terms. However, since she didn't knew of the ban on commercial activities in the Taj premises, charges will most likely be dropped after paying a certain minimum fine. But the organisation running the Miss Universe pageant might get fined heavily & blocked from making use of those pics for advertisement purposes.
She's back in US. Apparently the Media chaps were more interested in the issue than ASI folks.
Lets get arrested too! Inmates in India probably love the law right now.
@LaLakiMKaa: Oh yes definetly! but why you guys had to protest your lungs out for those rapists to be hanged? and last i checked death penalty for a rapist is sharia law!!
With an enchanting body, you must have a working mind as well.Alas!
@naeem Khan.......India is not pakistan and In India the court of law is not sharia.......so if he has done something wrong he will get punishment...
If that is the law to preserve all of India's heritage then every one should abide by it regardless who they are, it seems her employer Miss Universe Organization is at fault and those responsible should be brought to justice. She is really a beautiful and smart girl and deserve the tile.
2 years jail? Isnt it too much?
Had it been Pakistan and Culpo was stopped shooting at Lahore Fort... Oh My My.... the Libido brigade would have already done a candle light vigil, a human chain and would have ridiculed Pakistan and Pakistani like dogs... Oh My My....
