The injured man was taken to Nishtar Hospital, where doctors treating him said that he was in critical condition.
Police said Muhammad Majid ran a grocery shop in Vehari Bazaar in Nizamabad. They said on Sunday, he was at his shop when Jameel and an accomplice entered the shop wearing helmets. One of them was holding a 2.25-liters bottle filled with acid. Police said as accomplice held him by the hands, Jameel emptied the bottle on Majid.
Some men from the market took Majid to Jahanian tehsil headquarters hospital, where doctors said that his condition was critical and referred him to Nishtar Hospital in Multan, where doctors treating him said that he had 60 per cent burns. Majid’s father filed a complaint. He told The Express Tribune that Majid liked a woman and had sent a proposal for her.
He said a nephew of his wife had objected to the proposal saying that he too was interested in the woman. He said Majid had tried to talk to Jameel who had threatened to kill Majid if he married the woman.
He said Jameel’s father, Muhammad Sikanadar, too, had threatened them. Some of Majid’s friends also told police that Jameel had threatened to kill him. Doctors treating Majid said that he would likely need a surgery if he survived.
