When they did not receive the money till the following day, the policemen accused Brohi of being involved in drug peddling and sent him to prison, she submitted.

The same evening, Mrs Brohi received a phone call from a man identified as SP Rao Anwar, who threatened to implicate her husband in more crimes should she fail to paid the “ransom”.

Mrs Brohi said that although she had submitted a written application to the SHO Ferozabad, appealing for her husband’s release, the police had refused to initiate any proceedings in the matter, after which the court issued notices to the SHO Ferozabad and the district public prosecutor, demanding that they present themselves before the court on October 14.
