Television’s Aafia mafia

Letter October 12, 2010
I would like to encourage the writer to cover more of our media’s deafening silence on some issues.

LAHORE: “Television’s Aafia mafia” is a well-written article by Fasi Zaka (October 12). I would like to encourage the writer to cover more of our media’s deafening silence on issues like the video of the girl being stoned to death in the Fata region. The girl’s brutal death was not covered by all television channels, sans one. Lack of media coverage meant that a large number of people didn’t even get to hear about the unfortunate incident.

Also, our television channels rarely say anything over the ethnic cleansing of settlers in Balochistan. Thousands of Punjabis who were settled in Balochistan for over 30 years have been forced to leave because they are being persecuted. Why are issues like this not being covered by the media? The common man must be made aware of the extent of hooliganism and lawlessness that exists in Pakistan and the mass media is an immediate and effective source of information for news.
