The move will see the total number of districts in the province to swell to 28.
According to a notification from the Revenue Department, the right bank of River Indus would now comprise of the old Thatta district and left bank will now come under the jurisdiction of newly created district Sujawal.
After the division, around 30 union councils of Mirpur Sakro, Ghorabari, Keti Bunder and Thatta taluka itself will come under the modified Thatta district. The newly created Sujawal district will comprise of Mirpur Bathoro, Shah Bunder, Kharochan (excluding a few of its dehs), Jati and Sujawal Talukas.
No decision was taken over the proposal to make Lyari a separate district.
“The newly formed districts are being made to smooth the administrative affairs in the city. There was no political motive behind it. No one should raise objection to it,” Minister for Local Government Owais Muzaffar said.
Muzaffar, who had been elected from the newly made district during the May 11, 2013 elections, said “We have made the decision in the wake of longstanding demand of people of Sujawal.”
