The epicenter of the quake was 72 kilometers West, by Southwest of Khuzdar, placing it near to Mashkay which had been devastated by a series of high magnitude earthquakes in September.
The quake struck at a depth of 24.9km.
An earthquake measuring 7.7 on the Richter scale had struck the impoverished area of Balochistan on September 24 followed by a number of aftershocks measuring over 4.5 on the Richter scale had devastated over 50% of all houses in the area, killing at least 500 people and injuring over a 1,000 people.
As many as 125,000 people were affected by the earthquakes.
Quakes keep coming in Mashkay
The death toll from the quakes that hit Balochistan has soared over 500. The most major of the quakes struck on September 24 claiming more than 150 lives by the end of the day it hit Balochistan.
On September 27, an aftershock of the Balochistan earthquake registering magnitude 5 was felt in Awaran. The epicenter of the quake was in Ormara and its depth was around 10 kilometers.
On September 28, a 6.8-magnitude aftershock hit the same area and killed at least 12 more people.
On October 9, tremors were felt once again in areas in Balochistan. This time the epicentre was further east of Khuzdar as a 4.3-magnitude tremblor struck the area.
Relief work
Army figures of their relief efforts released on October 9 showed that they had managed to reach 62,429 of earthquake affected families to provide aid, relief goods, medical attention and tents.
Army has poured 2,400 troops, including personnel from its medical corps, into the affected areas. It has spearheaded relief efforts for inaccessible areas using helicopters and air crafts. It claimed that the pace of relief efforts is improving with every passing day.
The army says it has distributed 36,843 tents and 3,308 tons of rations among 62,429 earthquake affected families.
The NDMA said that as many as 43,660 tents and 18,485 blankets have reached Awaran in addition to over 75,000 food packs and 50 tonnes of high energy biscuits.

Moderators, do publish as I am taking scientific lessons from your brilliant geniuses.
@Asad Khan: Japan you say ? Hmm, do you know the difference between an air-burst and an explosion buried deep underground ? And do you know solid granite hills will ring and vibrate like a bell for a long time when stuck by a huge explosion ?
Now go find some soft sand, and bury your head...

@Jat: ....ET plz publish, it is a rebuttal.
Sorry to disappoint you but I do not run cars on water but neither can you, so we are even here.
I am not a trained cartographer but I do know difference between an #idiot and a Map.
Apparently you are troll, the venom that you put out against army justify enough that you needs vitamins (seriously), because it is effecting your rationality.
That army, that you hates the most, lost its brave sons while helping the earthquake victims. Other members have given you ample evidence that your theory of "N-testing leads to unnatural seismic behavior" is too much fantastic and the funniest bit is that the USGS map that you put it, nullified your entire "P.hD", (you just put it there that to show your chauvinism)
Japan lies in an area of much higher seismicity as compare to Pakistan because it is also located near major tectonic plate boundaries.
Before and after nuking of Hiroshima & Nagasaki there were umpteen major & minor earthquakes occur in Japan. Now, prove that the natural seismic activity in & around Japan is changed after WW2 and earned a Nobel.
I am now starting to like Robert A. Heinlein

@jat first of all earthquakes is a natural disaster caused by the nature and secondly seriously your brain is underdevelop come on get some education dude. Balochistan isn't the only province which lies under faultlines whole of pakistan does and remember 2005 earthquake no nuclear tests were done there and still that region was stuck by 8.0 magnitude earthquake. When you know nothing so its good not to speak nothing was done on purpose and FYI nuclear tests where done by the civilian government at that time by nawaz sharif and nuclear program was started by Bhutto. Are you real a baloch or some indian imposing himself as baloch because i have many baloch friends and i am from las bela a pashtun and every one in my village loves pakistan army and many of them are officers in pakistan army so please we all know how much respect and love peace loving baloch people have for pakistan army so please stop with your false accusation about nuclears test being the main cause of the earthquake has its is caused by nature and secondly 1945 earthquake and many more earthquakes happened in balochistan not because of nuclears test but caused by nature. So nuclear tests has nothing to do with the earthquake in balochistan.
@saad: Here comes another genius ! Pakistan is overflowing with them. Geological fault-line means that the region along it is a Seismic Hazard Zone and that the possibility of earthquakes occurring along it is much higher. Hence the earlier earthquakes.
Smart people will not explode atom bombs so close to the fault-line for the fear of making it more dangerous; unless they did it on purpose because of some ulterior motives.
We know how much love and respect the Pakistani Army has for the Baloch people.
@Jat hahahah really no seriously really? so according to you these earthquakes are caused by the nuclear test carried out in balochistan hmmm so massive earthquake in 1935 and 1945 was caused by the nuclear test when at that time only american had a nuclear bomb and in 1892 was caused because of the nuclear tests. you know jat i advise to you take some history classes and have brain surgery as your brain in underdevelop.
This is the cause of atomic explosion test done by pakistan. So they have to ban all wepaons and allow UN inspectors to dismantle there weapons stockpile as soon as possible.
this is bcz of india/isael or usa
Any time a big earthquake can hit Delhi. No need for silly religious or political speculations.
This very unfortunate. Pls don't put a picture of dried out soil.
The following map shows the alignment of the Chaman fault line. It also shows that the nuclear tests were done in a Seismic Hazard Zone with a PGA of more than 3.2; that is in the red zone. Look for Ras Koh hills.
USGS - US Geological Survey
I told you Mum Earth is angry with us . Maiming/ population growth / explosions / killings / fightings have taken their toll on Her. How long will she keep quite . All over the world She is erupting . No time or energy to kill Her people one by one . Hence She is killing us in groups . Earthquakes here / cyclones there are just the start.
God help
One should check the distance and alignment of the Ras Koh Hills as relative to the Chaman fault line. Also interesting to note the location of Quetta and Kharan as relative to the Ras Koh Hills.
It's god/allah/bhagwan earthquake on pakistanis who sees themselves as better breed than rest of the world..while infact they are the most low ones..
@SamQ1234 so to warn Allah goes and kills the poor and the helpless?..
@Asad Khan: And I should listen to the great scientific mind of yours because you can run cars on water ?
When did you last look at a map ? Oh the first question should be, do you know what a map is ?
@Jat: ......Dude, seriously, you need vitamins, ASAP.
regards,
This is all due to the testing of nuclear weapons so close to the geological fault-line. The Baloch people had protested against these weapons being tested in their land.
Warning signs from Allah swt to stop injustice with poor and helpless!!
