Death threats: Christian man seeks case against maulvi

An additional district and sessions judge on Friday fixed October 28 for arguments in a petition filed by a Christian youth seeking registration of a case against a maulvi (cleric) for threatening to kill him if he did not convert to Islam.
Petitioner Harrison, son of Patras Masih, said that he worked at a medical store in the Township area. He said Maulvi Khalid used to visit the shop and discuss religion. Harrison said that Khalid had tried to convince him to convert telling him that he would enter paradise that way. One day, Harrison said, he got into an argument with Khalid and refused to convert. “I quit my job at the medical store but Khalid, and three other men, came to my house and threatened me and my family,” said Harrison.
He said that he had gone to the Township police to file a complaint but they had refused to register it. He prayed to the court to direct the relevant SHO to register an FIR against Khalid.
The judge then sought comments from the Township police. The police said that the petitioner had fabricated the story.
