Police arrested Musharraf late on Thursday on charges that a military raid ordered by him on the Red Mosque in Islamabad left dozens dead. The arrest came just hours after his bail was processed for being implicated in the murder of the former Balochistan governor Nawab Akbar Bugti.
The 70-year-old has been confined to his villa on the edge of Islamabad, which has been declared a "sub-jail" since April over a string of cases dating back to his 1999-2008 rule.
The Supreme Court on Wednesday granted him bail over the death of Nawab Akbar Bugti, a move that could have seen him freed once release procedures were completed.
He had already been granted bail in two other major cases against him, including one relating to the assassination of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto.
"The court remanded Musharraf for 14 days. The next date of hearing has been fixed for October 25," a court official told AFP.
Musharraf's lawyer Afshan Adil confirmed the details of the order. Though they said Wednesday's bail order meant he was a "free man", in practice his life is in such danger that he cannot leave his villa, where he is guarded by 300 heavily-armed police and soldiers.
The Taliban have threatened to kill the 70-year-old former general, who as president allied Pakistan with Washington in the US "war on terror" in the wake of the 9/11 attacks.
Interior ministry officials also confirmed that Musharraf's name remains on the "exit control list", meaning he is officially barred from leaving Pakistan, even if he is freed.

@Aqib Ali Shah: It seems you know nothing about Economics and current affairs of the state......Musharraf's tenure was the best in the last 60 years of Pakistan's history. Open your eyes, READ, LEARN....my friend!
@Aqib Ali Shah:
What are you talking about? are you living in lala land.
President Musharraf is my all time hero and I'm grateful to him for the great services he did to Pakistan. Pakistanis are already realizing their mistake of going against him, he was the best thing that happened to Pakistan. Long live President Musharraf------ I salute him and pray of his long life and honourable restoration of his good name. Let Pakistanis miss him and let them live in shame and repent their mistakes. Pakistan Zindabad, Musharraf Zindabad!
Everyone talking about Zardari not being prosecuted should not forget the glorious NRO which our Musharraf supervised that legally dropped all cases on our zardari.
......kudos for ET
.....for choosing a nice snap of this dictator who tried to stem the threat of extremism / terrorism & steer the economy at same time didn't lost his dashing looks........
regards,
Only in Pakistan: The terrorists prosecute the patriots through courts.
So many are sending a clear message to Musharraf in so many ways.
Some are saying: You made me write a letter of apology and beg you for mercy and send me in exile.
Men in Black are saying you imprisoned us and sent us packing.
Both are trying to punish Musharraf. That someone is saying: We have our President now. Ask for Presidential Pardon and we shall give it to you. Those in Black are saying: Write a letter of apology and submit it to our Registrar.
Had Musharraf been charged for keeping OBL so close to his military academy, it would have been fair. But that would implicate Men in Khaki. So, that someone and those in Black cannot go that way. They want revenge though. Ultimately, someone else who has provided guarantee to two (or even three) sides will come in a bed sheet to rescue him the Al Bakistan way.
@A J Khan:
Your comments give the impression that you have the knowledge about Pakistan Judicial systemß If so could you tell us which Government was responsible for creating the Anti Terror Court? Thanks.

Musharraf should have allowed the 'Danda bardaar" of Lal Masjid to roam the streets of the capital and terrorize the people. Everyone likes to play politics like playing on the see-saw. Up when it benefits them and down when their mission plays. Did Musharraf have any other option, negotiations failed, shots were fired from the Lal Masjid. Someone had to take action. He took it bravely. Looks like the PML(N) just want to grind their axe.
Guy has multiple charges of murder - how about bringing him to trial rather than keeping him confined in his home?
@faizaan: yes court did it, they were kept without bail in jails not in lavish farm houses
Sweet. I feel like Count of Monte Cristo. Nice way to celebrate Oct 14 1999 anniversary.
Myssarraf was a differenr dictater . He paved the way to democracy for Pakistan otherwise terrorists would have entered in the national assembly through Lal Mashjid . His contribution is being realized both in India and Pakistan . Through Kargil war he eliminated those who were trying to capture J&k . Now there is no scope of war in the region .
Our courts have lost their dignity by acting shallow, bias & political. Have you ever witnessed more cases of "Contempt of Court" than in the last five -seven years. Surely they deserved that.
Now the two former Presidents are in hot waters.
After General Pervez Musharraf, references have also been filed against former President Zardari.
Apart from what is right or what is wrong, such news create an unfriendly situation for local and international business activities.
A lot of things are going on in Pakistan at one time, but such things do not happen in the developed countries and that is why their economies remain stable.
Can the court also do it for our number one thief (known as Mr 10% in 1980's or rather Mr 100% in this decade)..No they can't, because that will mean doing justice.
