With UK's assistance, Nawaz aims to set up govt performance monitoring body

Initially, the PDU would review progress in four areas: energy, infrastructure, employment generation and housing.

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Tuesday that his government could establish a Performance Delivery Unit (PDU) to keep a check on the implementation of its policies, with the United Kingdom (UK) promising to extend assistance in establishing the body.

The Prime Minister said this in a meeting with UK Special Envoy Sir Michael Barber at the PM’s House on Tuesday.

Nawaz said that initially, the PDU would be established in four key areas of governance, including energy, infrastructure, employment generation and housing.

The premier said that the body will be built along the lines of similar bodies functioning in the UK and Malaysia.

The Prime Minister also stressed Pakistan's commitment to education while appreciating UK's support for education in Pakistan.

Sir Barber assured UK's maximum possible assistance in the establishment of the unit.
