PTI candidate Sheikh Khurram Shahzad garnered a total of 23,973 votes according to unofficial results, defeating Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) candidate.
The competing PML-N candidate Khwaja Liaquat could only get 17,626 votes.
The victory will earn the winning party an additional seat in the Punjab Assembly. The by-election results come as a surprise since Faislabad is considered to be a stronghold of PML-N.
Upon the announcement of the results, PTI supporters could be seen celebrating on the Jail Road, cricket bats in hand and carrying PTI flags.
The seat fell vacant when Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Khwaja Muhammad Islam’s degree did not receive the Higher Education Commission authentication. He had won the seat in the May 11 elections. A Faisalabad district and session judge is hearing a fake degree case against Islam.

I am a PMLN supporter and demand fair election, PMLN will sweep all parties as it is Legacy of Shaheed Zia ul Haq sahab and we all want Islamic system in Pakistan only Mian Mohammad Nawaz Sharif is a capable and most intelligent leader.
@Ali: We are all Pakistanis. Now one is muhajir. Its our sick mentality that we are facing these problems.
@usman:
Indeed, I am from Peshawar NA1, have been living ere from ages. If someone is saying ANP would have won, they are mislead. All they do is, fix a street light and paint a RED FLAG beside it . Pathetic performance .
@Ch. Allah Daad: Before May 13 election you claimed that Faisalabad is fortress of PMLN and PTI can't win a single seat, accept defeat and be a lion.
recent by-election of DI Khan & Faisilabad shows pti is gaining strength on ground
Congrats PTI and thanks Imran Khan for providing a true leadership to the nation. To defeat a PML-N candidate in the party's stronghold speaks a lot about charisma of Imran Khan and popularity of the party in public. Critics of the party must see this.
Love You Imran Khan
Will there be re-election in this area? All WRONGS must be corrected in a fully transparent and accountable way to show that "Rule of Law" and "Equal Justice" is starting to come to Pakistan
Conveys a clear message to the haters! "Junoon mitt ta nhi, brhta hai"!
@faysal: They will get their wake up call about 5 months before elections.
No doubt PTI is a popular political force, but its KP leadership has locked horns with bureaucracy. Likewise, the people expect the role of real opposition from IK and two other seasoned parliamentarians of the party in the national assembly. Also people are more interested to listen the arguments of Asad Umar in the national assembly session rather than in TV Talk Shows.
@Ahmed: Problem is editors at ET are all "muhajirs". Watch how they feature and glorify Altaf Hussein
@riz: Nadra should investigate Mianwali votes. There is no doubt those polls were rigged too
Pti zenda bad
A severe jolt to PML-N. Shocking defeat in stronghold
@ Ali Ahmed Just FYI I hail from Peshawar and there was no chance ANP could have won at all. Their leader Asfandyar lost to JUI candidate in Charsadda which is my village. That sums it up all.
Congratulations PTI :) ET, the pic u r using is of NA-48 bi-election in Islamabad.
Powerful hidden forces are behind this conspiracy to damage and defame PML(N)'s clear victory. Purpose is to get positions for their men in future appointments. Once their goal is achieved Election Commission and NADRA will regret their false statements.
this is the first shock of electricty bill to pmln tiger. only first installment shows this result. see what happend when second installment of higher charges will come into action.
thats how a real lion roars.....its just the beginning......
@usman..if fear election was conducted in 11May 2013...ANP could have won more seats in KP
though I am a PMLN supporter but I am happy that pmln lost today as this result will help n act as a wake up call for the government to get their act right just like 30 oct gathering of pti..so its good in the hindsight..
No victory can normalize the defeat suffered by PTI in the home town of their leader "mainwali "
Good work PTI
PTI going good.... its sad how media portrayed NA1 and NA71 defeat of PTI but are literally silent on PTI's victories in NA25, NA27, PP150, PP243, now PP72 and some other constituencies too that were won in by elections...
after recent inflation and price hikes...i'm sure PTI can win more seats if elections happen again...bewaqoof log voted for same old garbage and now suffering!
ET is very sad today....
This is what happens when elections are a bit fair! Long live PTI!
Way to Go ! PTI all the way
Congratulations Faisalabad....
why don,t you clearly say pti defeated pmln but ET have to make an issue when it comes to pti like always
On a fair election day, PTI could have won many more seats from Punjab and Karachi. I wish SC now intervenes after brazen rigging came to limelight in NA 256 where more than 50,000 votes were bogus. NA 122 and NA 125 should be scrutinized the same way. I heard a Judge heading NA 122 Election Tribunal left. The pressure from PML in Punjab seems obvious. Superior Judiciary need to heed this at least. In fact SC should look over this process from now on.
