Jaswal, who is known for his workout routines and electrifying live performances, struggled with an identity crisis after the band performed at Coke Studio last year. “The audiences thought that my name was Qayaas. They related to me with the band’s image.”
The rock vocalist added, “There is more to Qayaas than just screams and loud riffs. This year on Coke Studio, I will try to show the mellow side of the band.”
Despite having a cult following in Islamabad and Karachi, Qayaas largely came in the limelight after their Coke Studio performance. Charkha Nolakha became the most popular track from the last season. The audience admired the rather distinctive combination of Aslam and Jaswal more than the sonically-fine production of the song.
Despite boasting a Rolling Stones-Jack Daniels for Best Rock Band, Qayaas was restricted to performing only one song out of the three it had recorded for the last season of the show. We hope that Rohail Hyatt makes better use of Umair’s rather untapped talent!

qayaas is the only band in pakistan whcih has kept the Rock scene on in Pakistan !!! unlike some of the best bands are selling fanta :P
qayaas is the best live performance bands in Pakistan right now !! they were in karachi two weeks ago !!! they rocked the concert !!! they are the only rock bad in pakistan which is not going commercial like NOORI fanta rocks !! lolz !!! qayaas rock (Y)
To say that Umair Jaswal and Qayaas are overrated is absolute ignorance. Go listen to your accessible and "Safe" bubble gum pop while real musicians like Qayaas will keep giving great performance. A band is more about just the vocals, its about all the members and Umair fits well in to the role of a vocalist in Qayaas. The band is great and has a lot of potential, people talking against them are either jealous or followers of pathetic commercial music.
Why is a Chandio always there when you dont need one?
People calling Qayaas and Umair over-rated and talent-less have probably never gone beyond Atif Aslam(the Justin Bieber of Pakistan; Sad but true). These guys have the potential to have their name carved right up there with the likes of Junoon in our musical history.
@Zain:
wrong. bring me a better rock/progressive vocalist in pakistan today. umair has a killer voice with amazing range and control.
@Ali: His last performance with Atif was brilliant.Yeah there are excellent singers in Baluchistan and Sindh also but this doesn't mean Uzair isn't good.BTW I love that ROBAB of Baluchistan
One of the most over rated band. No talent no voice. Umair jaswal can scream better than singing
Qayyas was absolutely brilliant in the previous cokestudio season. Though I was hoping to see the whole band perform again but nevertheless Umair's Solo' performance should a treat as well. I hope they would keep Qayyas originality of Rock in the performance though.
P.S The scream in Charkha Nolakha was one of the absolute Highlights of the whole season! Keep it coming!
Err... I am Chandio and I sing better than these dudes.
His name is Uzair, not Umair.
@Ali: Have you ever heard Qayaas or your comment is just a generalized biased attitude shown in Pakistan on a usual basis. May be if his name ending will be like Chandio then he will be one of the great artists according to your observation. ?
Trust me there is nothing more to your band than screams and loud riffs; the burgers of Islamabad and Karachi think they are different. Come to Sindh or Balochistan we will show you what talent is.
Aoo na zara khusbhoo laga kai!
