KARACHI:
A Dubai-bound PIA airplane caught fire in Karachi when it was flying over Shahrahe Faisal, Express News reported on Sunday.

A fire brigade was called to the Quaid-e-Azam International Airport.

"The plane carrying over 50 passengers has now landed safely," reported Aftab Ahmed, Express News correspondent.

Sources in the Civil Aviation Authority said that the plane had caught fire as soon as it took off in Karachi.

According to initial reports, the plane caught fire after it encountered a problem in the engine. An explosion was also heard by some residents of the area.

"However, one of the plane's engine was working fine which allowed it to land safely," said Ahmed.

"The airport was prepared to allow for the plane to make an emergency landing," reported Nadeem Ahmed, Express News correspondent.

Emergency has been declared at the Karachi Airport and a team of CAA also has also arrived.

No loss of life has been reported because of the accident.
