ISLAMABAD:

The Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) government is taking steps to bring an improvement in all sectors of the country including the energy sector, said Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal.

He said that important measures were being taken to ensure good governance and merit in all institutions. The government was working on plans to generate more energy, grow the economy besides promoting public-private partnerships.

Talking to a television channel, Iqbal went on to say that proper use of technology would bring improvements in the tax machinery and expand the tax net. The government was also focusing, very keenly, to boost exports, he added.

In a reply to a question, Iqbal said that political stability was the key factor to achieve sustainable economic growth.

The PML-N government, since assuming office, was making efforts to streamline the systems in all the sectors. “There was no proper attention paid to expand energy sector in the past,” the planning and development minister added. The present leadership is sincerely working on achieving progress and prosperity for the people of this country.

Replying to another question regarding progress of the government in the past three months, Iqbal said that the present government had reduced the problem of power outages, and further planning was being made to address the issue in a proper manner.

The government had launched a crackdown against the people who steal power and gas, the minister added.

We have been hearing the word planning to improve from you and all your colleagues. Once you have done it, then let us know that it is done. And that should be make the headlines. Not planning to do.

Dear Minister, Following 18th amendment, abolishment of concurrent list and devolution, you cannot 'improve system in all sectors'. The sectors of health, education, social services, population welfare, environment, labour etc are the exclusive domain of the provinces. You must not interfere in the affairs of the provinces. Thank you!
