During the raid the kidnappers started firing at the forces which led to a standoff between the two, resulting in the death of one security personnel and several others being injured.
The injured were taken to a nearby hospital.
Two of the kidnappers were killed and six others were arrested.
Dr Munaf Tareen was not recovered. Sources say that it is likely that he will be recovered soon.
The cardiologist was kidnapped on September 17 by unknown persons at Pishin Stop in Quetta as he was heading home from hospital, according to an article by ARY News.
Condemning the event, Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) had called for a strike protesting against the kidnapping on September 24. The representatives of PMA demanded immediate recovery of the kidnapped doctor.
