FAISALABAD:

Relatives of four prisoners who were brought to the sessions court for hearing on Friday staged a demonstration against the police’s allegedly uncooperative attitude.

They said that the police team escorting the prisoners did not let them meet their relatives.

They also alleged that Inspector Nasir Ali, who was heading the team, demanded that he be paid if they wanted to meet the prisoners.

The protesters sat in front of the court on University Road and shouted slogans against the police.

Muhammad Rasheed, one of the protestors, said that Shahid Ali, Javaid Anwar, Muhammad Faisal and Muhammad Khalid had been arrested by the police in a robbery case.

He said when their relatives tried to meet them when they were being taken for a hearing, Inspector Ali pushed them away and ordered his team to beat them if they did not leave.

Rasheed said the inspector later said that he would let them meet the prisoners if he was paid.

DSP Mirza Anjum Kamal visited the scene and assured them that their complaint would be redressed on merit.
