Passenger held with over 1 kg of heroin at airport

Pakistan Customs Drug Enforcement Cell takes him in after seizing 84 heroin-filled capsules.

KARACHI: A South African passenger was arrested on charges of smuggling heroin at Jinnah International Airport.

Pakistan Customs Drug Enforcement Cell (DEC) took him in after seizing 84 heroin-filled capsules hidden in different body cavities.

According to custom officials, customs DEC staff intercepted Willem Adriaan Swanepoel, at the international departure hall where he was scheduled to board Emirates Airlines Flight EK 603 to Antananarivo (Madagascar) via Dubai, Nairobi and Johannesburg.

The radiological examination at the check-in post detected the concealed heroin filled capsules. After a full-body search, the capsules were discovered containing 1,150 grams of white heroin. The passenger has been arrested and a prosecution case under Control of Narcotics Substances Act, 1997 has been lodged against him.

On September 29, 2010 the DEC seized a kg of heroin from the suitcase of a passenger leaving for China.
