LAHORE: The All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) on Monday protested against the continued detention of former president General (r) Pervez Musharraf. In a statement, Chaudhry Sarfaraz Anjum Kahloon, political advisor to the former president, called Musharraf’s detention as “part of an elaborate political conspiracy contrary to justice and the rule of law.” He said the former president was being punished for protecting the unity and integrity of the country against extremists who challenged the writ of the state. “All cases against former Musharraf are politically motivated and devoid of legal merit,” his statement read. Kahloon said, “Certain political forces wish to create an intolerable situation for the former president in the hope that he will leave the country. They will fail in their designs as a Pakistani soldier always overcomes challenges and lives only for his country and people.”
