Five prisoners were freed from Malir jail after their outstanding fines were paid by an NGO on Sunday.
As per the new judicial policy of the Supreme Court, Malir district and sessions judge Malir Muhammad Yameen, additional district judge West Irfan Mio, judicial magistrates Nadir Khan Burdi, Muhammad Ali Memon, Abdul Shakoor Kalharo and Hassan Ali Kalwer, personal secretary to Malir DJ Zubair Bin Mehmood and Saiban International Welfare Organisation general secretary Haider Ali Haider visited Malir District Jail.
Justice Yameen surveyed various barracks where he met the prisoners and inquired about the details of their ongoing cases. A large number of prisoners submitted applications for an early hearing of their cases while many submitted applications for review of the courts’ decisions. Five prisoners said they had completed their sentence but were in jail because they were unable to pay the fine. Upon hearing this, Saiban chairperson Haq Nawaz Akhtar paid their fines and travelling expenses.
