Judicial hearings: SC to address important cases next week

The court will also hear the proposed project of Margalla Tunnel.

The Supreme Court of Pakistan will take up on important cases starting next week. The extension of Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani is fixed on October 2 before a three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry. Petitioner Shahid Orakzai has filed a petition against army chief’s extension.


The case against involvement of the former chairman of the Employees Old Age Benefit Institution (EOBI) Zafar Iqbal Gondal in a multi-billion scam would be taken up on October 1. Lists of more names have already been submitted to the Supreme Court involved in this scam, a court official stated.

A suo motu action against grant of illegal CNG stations licences during the tenure of the two former premiers, Yousaf Raza Gillani and Raja Pervez Ashraf, will also be addressed.

The case of misappropriation of funds in the accounts of Intelligence Bureau (IB) is also listed for next week.

A suo motu case related to illegal construction in agriculture farms in Islamabad by influential owners of Agro Farms is also on the list.  The court will also hear the proposed project of Margalla Tunnel.  The destruction of forest and illegal acquisition of land by DHA and Bahria Town case is also enlisted for hearing.
